Norfolk Nighthawks News Release
NORFOLK - The Norfolk Nighthawks avenged a last-second defeat from earlier this season, as they defeated the Richmond Speed with ease in front of 4,023 rowdy fans 63-28.
The game was as brutal as it was offensive, with Nighthawk and Speed players showing the Norfolk crowd what sort of intensive rivalry they really do have. Scuffles and scrums burst out throughout the game.
The first half was dominated by the Nighthawks, who took control early. All momentum swung to Norfolk as starting QB Chris Wallace bobbled the snap deep in his own territory. But, like a circus performance, Wallace was able regain control of the ball in time to fire a pass 45 yards to a wide-open OS Travis Burns for an easy score.
Wallace ended the game passing with 7-for-12 and one interception. His performance netted him four touchdowns and 164 yards. QB Aaron Sparrow (the team's usual starter), in a clean-up role, threw for three touchdowns and ran four a fourth.
Defensively, Norfolk's Quesuan Wigfall pulled down two important interceptions. Wigfall was recognized as the ADT Defensive Player. OL/DL Chris Stahl was named the Iron Man and Wallace was named the game's MVP.
The end of the game was marred by a fight which erupted on Richmond's bench and ended only after Richmond's Tim Jones and Richard Holland were ejected from the game.
