Keene Swamp Bats News Release

For the fourth night in a row, the Keene Swamp Bats made their fans sweat it out until the final pitch, but the defending NECBL champions came from behind once again to capture a 4-2 victory in 12 innings over the North Adams SteepleCats.

The win puts Keene at 5-7 on the season, while North Adams drops to 5-5.

With the bases loaded and one out in the top half of the twelfth, Darrick Hall (Cochise) delivered his first hit of the night with a two-run single that scored Conner Simonetti (Kent State) and Aubrey McCarty (Vanderbilt) to give the Swamp Bats their first lead of the night.

McCarty was the story of the game as he started the game at first base and moved to the mound in the tenth, shutting out the SteepleCats over the final three innings and picking up his first win of the season. The switch pitcher allowed just two hits and struck out a pair. He also delivered a 2-5 performance at the plate with a run scored.

Coley Bruns (Grand Canyon) was dealt the loss for North Adams, working 2.1 innings allowing two runs on three hits, walked one and struck out a pair.

The SteepleCats took a two-run lead in the home half of the third as Todd Juliano (Flagler) delivered a two-run bloop single down the right field line that plated Zach Lucas (Louisville) and JC Cardenas (Barry).

North Adams starter Trevor Scott (UC San Diego) retired the first 18 hitters that he faced and carried a perfect game into the seventh inning.

Scott received a no-decision in his first start of the year, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing one run on one hit, walking one and fanning six.

Alex Liquori (Kennesaw State) singled to lead off the seventh for Keene's first hit of the night and came around to score on a passed ball charged to Ramon Valdez (Barry).

Liquori led off the top of the ninth with a walk, but was thrown out at second on a bunt attempt by Ryan Summers (Louisville). Summers reached at first and scored all the way from first when Bret Dennis (St. John's) drove a ball into the right-centerfield gap to tie the game at two apiece.

Each team had their chances in extra innings, but the SteepleCats left 16 men on base and had someone reach in every inning with the exception of the sixth.

Matthew Crohan (Winthrop) started the game for the Swamp Bats and lasted three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out three.

Keene's bullpen quartet of McCarty, Alex Robinson (Maryland), Michael Dunnigan (St. Leo) and Ben Criscuolo (Southern NH) kept North Adams off the scoreboard for the final nine innings of the contest.

The Swamp Bats will enjoy an off day tomorrow, before heading down to Newport for a 2013 NECBL Championship series rematch with the Gulls on Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
