June 8, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

Keene looked like it had its first win of the season tonight against the Sanford Mainers as it headed to the bottom of the ninth inning with a one run lead, 4-3. Zach Willeman came into the game to close it out for the Swamp Bats and gave up three hits and two runs while recording two outs and blew the save for the Swamp Bats.

Sanford started off the scoring in the fourth inning with a solo homerun by Shaine Hughes and was able to tack on two more runs in the inning to take a 3-0 lead to the fifth.

Keene answered back in the seventh inning as Garrett Christman led off the inning with a solo homerun. His first of the season and that cut the lead to 3-1. Center fielder Larry Crisler and Chris Hardardt added RBI singles to tie the game 3-3 after the top of the seventh.

Headed into the ninth inning tied 3-3 the Swamp Bats came alive. Right fielder Ryan Karl doubled to right field, which was followed by a Crisler single and Mike Geannelis reached on a fielders choice which resulted in no outs and the bases loaded. A thirteen-pitch at-bat for Chris Hardardt resulted in a walk and an RBI, to give Keene the 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

After a single by first baseman Andrew Gazzola and a throwing error by Keene's third baseman Lucas Luopa, the Mainers had a runner on second base with nobody out. Catcher Harrison Wenson then hit a single and advanced to second on the throw and Sanford had runners at second and third with no one out in the bottom of the ninth.

Following back-to-back strikeouts by Willeman, second baseman Mike Mastroberti singled to third base and Luopa was unable to make the play and was charged with an error on top of the single, leading to the game winning, walk-off win for the Mainers.

Keene falls to 0-4 on the season and will search for their first win tomorrow night when they play host to the New Bedford Bay Sox.
