July 23, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Swamp Bats lost to the Valley Blue Sox 2-0 for the fifth time on the year. The Swamp Bats fell to 9-25 and have yet to have a win against the Holyoke-based team.

Keene and Valley got into a pitchers duel between Bennett Sousa and Perry Kulaga. The Swamp Bats and Blue Sox would be scoreless through six innings before the 7th inning got interesting. Darryn Sheppard would get a leadoff walk and eventually reach to 2nd base.

Jake Lumley would come in with two outs and get an RBI single to get the first run of the day for either team. Adryan would also get an RBI single and the score would be 2-0.

The Swamp Bats would give it their all in the bottom of the 9th inning down 2-0. Shane Matheny would reach on base on a single and Connor Foreman would get an RBI double to cut it to 2-1 with two outs but Mike Geannelis would come up next and flyout to centerfield.

Sousa would play a nearly flawless game pitching 6.2 innings allowing an earned run on two hits and striking out seven before Brian Hobbie would come in for relief.

Keene would have five hits on the game compared to Valley's two hits, but those two hits for the Blue Sox would be enough for runs.

After Ryan Karl had two home runs against Danbury, he went 0-for-4 and went down all four times by strikeout.

The Swamp Bats are now on 9-25 and will have five of their last nine games at Alumni Field. They will host North Adams Friday night.
