Keene Swamp Bats News Release
The Swamp Bats took care of business in game one, defeating the Blue Sox 5-0.
Keene jumped out of the gates, scoring two runs to start things off on a Matt Ford, Hofstra, RBI triple and later on an error.
Another Holyoke error, one of four on the game for the Blue Sox, led to a third run in the third inning.
The Swamp Bats scored two more in the fourth on another RBI single from Ford and a JP Sportman, Central Connecticut, sacrifice fly. That would make it a 5-0 Keene lead, and the game would stay there the rest of the way due to a great starting pitching performance. David Sosebee (3-2) toed the rubber in game one and tossed his best start of the season. The right-hander out of the University of Georgia went six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and four walks with six strikeouts.
Matthew Clancy, St. Johns, came on in the seventh to finish things, and did so to seal the 5-0 Swamp Bat victory in Game One.
Game two was a much closer contest.
Paul Covelle, out of Franklin Pierce University made the start for Keene, and did well enough to give his offense a chance to win.
The right-hander went 3.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and five walks with five strikeouts.
The one run was given up in the bottom of the third on an error, which tied the game at 1-1 after Keene scored one on a Robbie Cafiero, Hofstra, RBI single in the top of the third.
Keene took the lead in top of the fifth on Rutgers' Brian O'Grady's RBI single to make it 2-1 Keene.
Holyoke took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth on a Joseph Carcone 2 RBI single.
The Swamp Bats went down scoreless in the seventh as Holyoke came from behind to take the 3-2 victory.
The split series sees Keene's record now at 22-15 as they improve to 18-4 in July. Keene will next be on the road to take on the Laconia Muskrats.
