Bay Sox win second in a row

The Bay Sox won their second game in a row 8-4 over the Sanford Mainers Thursday night at Paul Walsh Field.

New Bedford's Max Nogay (West Virginia) and Chris Shaw (Boston College) both had impressive nights at the plate. Nogay contributed three hits and three RBIs while Shaw added two doubles and four RBIs.

Bay Sox bats got to work early in the first inning pushing three runs across the plate.

Alex Witkus (Fairfield) got the inning going with a leadoff double down the right field line. Three batters later and the bases loaded, Shaw doubled over the right fielders head to score Witkus and Lane Richards (Notre Dame). Nogay followed with an RBI single into center to give the Bay sox a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the second, New Bedford's Danny Tyson (Northwestern) found himself in trouble. Tyson walked two and allowed an RBI single to Mainers Kyle Moore (Maryland College). A wild pitch and an error in the same play allowed the Mainers to plate two and tie the game at three.

The scoring continued for the Bay Sox in the bottom of the second when Richards came through with a sacrifice fly to score Kurt Seiders (Millersville U) to put the Bay Sox back on top 4-3.

Following three quiet innings the Mainers tied the score in the when Sam Balzone (Maine) sent a groundball base hit up the middle to score Moore.

The Bay Sox took the lead again in the seventh after putting together a string of hits.

The inning started with back-to-back base hits from Ryan Plourde (Fairfield) and Chris Travers (Roger Williams). Two batters later Nogay placed a ball on the left field line for a double to drive in a run. The Bay Sox would tack on another run after Mainers' Travis Landry (Franklin Pierce) walked in a run with the bases loaded to give the Bay sox a 6-4 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth Shaw hit his second double of the night making the score 8-4 Bay Sox.

The Bay Sox move to 16-21 on the season and have the day off tomorrow.
