
Suzuki Sends Streak to Four

Behind strong starting pitching from Mac Suzuki the Calgary Vipers defeated the Tucson Toros 10-6 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. In his first start of the season Suzuki (1-0) threw seven innings for the win allowing only four hits and two runs. With their fourth straight win the Vipers improved to 14-6 on the second half and are three and a half games up in first place in the North Division. Overall Calgary's recorded improves to 37-26 on the Golden Baseball League season.
At the plate the Snakes has six batters with multi hit games and scored four runs early in the second inning to take the lead for good.
Calgary opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Kevin Price was hit by a pitch, Drew Miller walked, Luis Taveras singled to load the bases, Caonabo Cosme drove in two with a single, Jonny Kaplan collected a base hit to again load the sacks, and with two outs Brent Metheny singled home two more for a 4-0 lead.
One run was added to the Vipers lead in the third frame as Price and Miller singled followed by a Taveras run batted in grounded for a 5-0 advantage.
Tucson got a run back in the fourth for a 5-1 score when Ryan Priddy doubled and scored on a Cristobal Santana RBI single.
In the fifth inning Calgary plated two more tallies for a 7-1 lead as Julio Ramirez walked, Price doubled, and Miller cashed both with a base hit.
The Snakes made the score 8-1 in the sixth frame when Cosme singled, Kaplan doubled, and Jorge Mejia drove in a run with a ground ball.
The Toros responded with a run in the next half inning as Francisco Plasencia and Luis Apodaca singled followed by a Jose Valdez RBI fielder's choice fora 8-2 game.
Tucson got closer in the eighth when Lino Garcia and Wally Backman Jr. walked, both advanced on a wild pitch, and scored with a Santana two run single for a 8-4 score.
Calgary got those two runs back in the bottom of the frame as Kaplan doubled, Mejia walked, both runners advanced with steals, Kaplan scored on a throwing error, and Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly for a 10-4 lead.
This series continues in Calgary at Foothills Stadium on Wednesday August 11th at 5:05 PM with double-header against the Tucson Toros. This five-game series wraps up on Thursday August 12th and Friday August 13th both at 7:05 PM MDT with Friday's game being Hawaiian Night at the ballpark. The St. George RoadRunners will visit Calgary for a four game series on Saturday August 14th at 5:05 PM with Zoo at the Park Day, Sunday August 15th at 12:35 PM MDT for Team Photo Giveaway, and Monday August 16th and Tuesday August 17th both at 7:05 PM MDT.
