Sutton on Topps' Double-A All-Star Squad

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Drew Sutton, added to Houston's 40-man roster Wednesday, has received more acclaim for his stellar season in Corpus Christi in 2008.

Sutton was named this week as the second baseman on the Topps' Double-A All-Star Team. The best performances throughout all classifications in the minors are honored annually by the Topps Company of New York in conjunction with Minor League Baseball.

Sutton, selected as the Hooks MVP in 2008, led the Texas League in hits (165), doubles (39) and runs (102), becoming the first player in team history to score 100 or more runs. He also finished third in the circuit in on-base percentage (.408) and slugging percentage (.523).

The versatile infielder led the Hooks and finished sixth in the league with his .317 batting average. He also became the first "20-20" player in Hooks' history, producing 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases to go along with his 69 RBI's.

Sutton's recognition by Topps is the first for a Hook since outfielder Hunter Pence received the honor in 2006.

Sutton was one of four honorees from the Texas League. First baseman Kila Kaaihue (NW Arkansas), designated hitter Kyle Blanks (San Antonio) and right-handed pitcher Vince Mazzaro (Midland) were also recognized.

One team, the Huntsville Stars (Milwaukee) of the Southern League, placed four players on the 12-member squad. One of those players is third baseman Mat Gamel, the Topps/Minor League Player of the Year.
