BILOXI, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings' (11-10-3) struggles with their cross-state rival Mississippi Surge (11-9-1) continued Wednesday night as the 'Kings fell to the Surge 2-0 in Biloxi.
The two teams looked to skate into the lockerroom knotted at one, but the Surge capitalized late in the period. BJ Crum collected a Matthew Krahn rebound and beat the RiverKings netminder to send the home-team into the first period up by one.
Early in the second, with Todd Hosmer in the penalty box for the RiverKings for cross checking, Brandon Kosolofsky redirected a Jarkko Leppanen pass past Krahn to put the Surge up by two. The RiverKings threw 13 shots on net during the third period, but they could not beat Kiefer Smiley as they fell to the Surge for the fourth time this season.
Matthew Krahn (7-6-2) stopped 30 of 32 shots against in the loss. Kiefer Smiley (5-6-1) turned aside all 31 shots against as he picked up the shutout at home.
