Surf Top Nashua in Ninth Inning

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (July 27, 2003) – Brody Jackson drove in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to lift the Atlantic City Surf over the Nashua Pride, 2-1, Sunday evening at the Sandcastle.

Jose Velazquez led off the ninth inning with a base-hit to centerfield and Willy Ruiz took his place as a pinch-runner. Ruiz advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third base on a single to shallow left field by Chad Gambill. Two batters later, Brody Jackson sent a fly ball to deep centerfield that plated Ruiz to give Atlantic City the win.

Atlantic City starter Andy High allowed one run on eight hits through seven innings pitched, striking out six and walking three. Pride starter Archie Corbin had a stellar outing, tossing eight innings and allowing

Surf reliever Craig Mattson (1-0) tossed two scoreless innings to pick up his first victory of the season.

Nashua broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning after David Francia doubled and D.J. Boston drove him in with a double of his own. Francia finished with three hits on the evening. Raul Marval tied the game up for Atlantic City with an RBI single that plated Brody Jackson, who led off with a base-hit, in the sixth inning.

The Surf improved to 9-7 in the second half while the Pride dropped to 4-13.
