Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The Allentown Ambassadors scored six runs in the second inning and never looked back, beating the Berkshire Black Bears 13-5 Sunday evening in Allentown.
Berkshire actually scored the first run of the game in the top of the second, an unearned run off Kevin Perrucci, and took a 1-0 to the bottom of the inning.
That was when the Ambassador bats exploded for six runs off Berkshire starter Courtney Hall. Marlon Roche began the inning with a double down the left field line. Brian Macchi then grounded out, and Tito Cruz walked, with Roche stealing third on ball four. Kevin Moore hit into a fielder's choice, with Cruz out at second, but Roche scored to tie the game. With two outs now, Ben Rosenthal walked, then Cedrick Harris drove in Moore with a single, Jorge Diaz drove in Rosenthal and Harris with a double, Ender Gonzalez followed with another double to score Diaz, and Vic Davilla singled home Gonzalez. That was the end of the game for Hall, who gave up six runs in one and two thirds innings pitched.
The Ambassadors would add three more in the fourth on a Vic Davilla three run home run to right that was just barely fair. It was Davilla's twelfth home run of the season. He finished the game 2-3 with a home run, four RBI, a run scored, a walk, and a hit by pitch.
Each team would add a run in the fifth, and Berkshire scored three in the eighth to once again pull within five runs, but Allentown added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to win by a comfortable 13-5 margin. Perrucci got the win, pitching six innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts. He is now 1-1. Hall took the loss, he is now 2-8 this season. Ender Gonzalez finished the game 2-4 with three runs scored, a double, and an RBI.
With the win, the Ambassadors took two of three from Berkshire to win the series, and improved to 6-11 in the second half. Berkshire falls to 7-9. The Ambassadors have the next two days off for the All-Star Break, and will resume play on Wednesday with four games in North Shore.
