The Atlantic City Surf open their sixth season at home when they face the Long Island Ducks at 6:35 p.m. Friday night at the Sandcastle.
The Surf, which played the first game in Atlantic League history against the Somerset Patriots on May 20, 1998, will be looking to defend the South Division second-half ALBP championship they won last season.
The Surf have an extravaganza planned for opening night.
At 6:15 Splash will land in centerfield in a helicopter provided by the Steel Pier to deliver the first home pitch of the season.
Then Atlantic City Surf general manager Mario Perrucci will receive the Atlantic City Expressway Series trophy awarded for defeating Camden 10-7 in the regular-season series played in 2002. The trophy will be presented by Jim Crawford, executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority.
The Surf will also honor the NJSIAAA Group IV state champion Absegami wrestling team during the game and Gene Barber will throw out the first pitch.
Also slated to throw out ceremonial first pitches are New Jersey state senator Bill Gormley and Atlantic City councilman William "Speedy'' Marsh.
