Surf Pitching is Great, but Lose Series to Camden

May 18, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Atlantic City Surf News Release

CAMDEN, NJ- Even though the Riversharks won the opening series against the Surf, I will argue with anyone that says the Surf couldn't play. They not only had to face the three toughest pitcher's the Riversharks had, they were facing the three best in the league. Lincoln Mikkelsen took the mound tonight and realized the Surf might not be the best hitting team, But they''re pretty hard to beat when they got pitching.

Anthony Chavez gave up two runs in the first inning and then cruised for a total of seven strong innings. He got out of a basess loaded jam in the fourth inning and struck out the side in the seventh.

Shane Monahan saved a run in the first inning as Lipso Nava lined a solid hit to right field with two men on base and the score 2-0 Camden. Instead of throwing home, Monahan threw a bullet to third base to catch the runner for out number three a split second before the lead runner crossed the plate. Monahan then drove home the tying run in the ninth inning to force extra innings. The game went back and forth until finally in the 12th inning the Sharks got the winning run to score with two outs. The run was unearned.

The Surf played a fine series against a tough team and will head home with momentum on thier side. The team takes on the Road Warriors for a three game series begining Tuesday.

Great series Surf but tough finish!
