Lima Strikes Out 13 as Bears Beat Road Warriors, 3-2

NEWARK, NJ, MAY 18-Former major league right-hander Jose Lima tossed a complete-game, three-hitter as the Newark Bears defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at Riverfront Stadium Sunday afternoon, 3-2. The victory gave the Bears a sweep of their three-game series against the Road Warriors.

Lima (4-0) struck out 13 batters, one shy of the franchise single-game record. He allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on three hits while walking two. Lima has won all four of his starts for the Bears this season.

Newark trailed 1-0, but tied the game at 1-1 in the 6th inning on Wil Quintana's run-scoring double off of Pennsylvania starter Pat Danaker. Danaker received a no-decision, allowing only one run on 7 hits in 6 innings of work.

Former Bears pitcher Byron Batson (0-3) took the loss in relief for the Road Warriors. He allowed an unearned run in the 7th inning on third-baseman Dario Delgado'c in relief for the Road Warriors. He allowed an unearned run in the 7th inning on third-baseman Dario Delgado's error. In the 8th, Eddy Martinez delivered a two-out RBI single off of Batson to close out the Bears scoring.

Bears third-baseman Pete Maestrales was 2-4 with two doubles and a run scored.

In the series against Pennsylvania, Bears pitchers allowed only two runs and 10 hits in three games. Newark had won Friday night, 8-0, and Saturday night, 6-0.

The Bears have a day off on Monday and will open a six-game road trip Tuesday night in Camden against the Riversharks. Steve Gagliano (0-2) will start Tuesday for the Bears.
