San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release

SAN DIEGO, CALIF June 10, 2005 – San Diego Surf Dawgs beat the Long Beach Armada 6 to 2. The game began with an eventful 1st Inning when Rickey Henderson was ejected. Henderson broke the new Minor League "Batter's Box Rule," an experimental rule this year intended to speed the pace of the game. The rule states that one foot has to remain in the batters box between pitches, then two warnings were given and a strike was called. The umpire was enforcing the rule, acting in accordance with the official guidelines. Henderson was ejected for arguing with the automatic strike with the umpire. Henderson took his punishment good naturedly and sat in the stands surrounded by fans to cheer the Surf Dawgs on to victory.

"I feel bad about being ejected from the game, I didn't understand the rule," said Rickey Henderson. "I was taking time to refocus and was not trying to argue. I didn't want to disappoint all the fans that came out to see me play, but I enjoyed hanging out with them."

"Henderson was a good sport he sat in the stands, and was able to interact with the fans signing baseballs, tickets, hats, and T-Shirts," said Juliana Paoli, General Manager of the Surf Dawgs. "One Little League team in attendance was disappointed when Rickey left the game, but was thrilled when everyone left with an autograph and a great big smile."

The Surf Dawgs will be honoring the Man of Steal, Rickey Henderson tomorrow on June 11th at Tony Gwynn Stadium. A voucher will be given out to the first 1,500 that enter the stadium for a limited edition Rickey Henderson bobble head.

Seats at Tony Gwynn Stadium are $6 for General Admission, $8 for Upper Reserved and $10 for Lower Reserved. Ticket Packages start as low as $30. For more information please contact Michael Stevens, Director of Ticket Sales at call (619) 282-HITS (4487) or email MStevens@goldenbaseball.com.
