Surprise Fightin' Falcons News Release
A promising night turned into a loss for the Surprise Fightin' Falcons Friday night.
Starting pitcher David Seccombe was pitching one-hit ball through six innings, but had to leave the game because of a leg injury, and the Chico Outlaw took advantage by scoring three runs in the seventh to leave Surprise Stadium with a 4-2 win in the first game of a four-game series.
The Falcons lost their second straight at home after reeling off seven straight wins at Surprise Stadium. Seccombe put the team in position to win his third game in three starts, but lefty Craig Frydendall gave up three runs in the seventh when he walked three straight batters and gave up a double to pinch-hitter David Trujillo and a run-scoring single from Steve Booker.
Surprise scored two runs in the top of the fifth when 3B Jay Yaconetti hit a sacrifice fly and 1B Desi Wilson singled home OF Josh Green. But the Falcons could have had more runs in the early innings, getting on base early off Chico starter Jess Turner. But Turner stranded six runners over the first three innings and settled down to earn his first win of the season.
Frydendall took his first loss of the year after being picked up by the team earlier this week. The loss dropped Surprise into second place in the Arizona Division, a game behind Yuma, which won Friday.
Friday's attendance of 1,748 was the second highest total of the year at Surprise Stadium.
The teams will battle again in the second game of the four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. Falcons RHP James Beever Jr. (1-0, 3.68) is scheduled to face Chico RHP Jeremy Sugarman (2-0, 4.02).
