Zebulon, N.C. - The Jacksonville Suns tied the franchise-best 86-54 regular season record with a 5-3 Labor Day victory over the Carolina Mudcats in the final game of the 2006 regular year.

The 2006 Suns tied the 1998 club for best record. Jacksonville won the first half going away with a dominant 48-22 record while finishing second in the second half with a 38-32 mark.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the sixth when Chin-Lung Hu hit a leadoff homerun, his fifth of the season, off of the left-centerfield scoreboard to make it a 1-0 game.

The Suns added to the lead in the seventh when they scored four runs on one hit, four walks, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-0 Suns advantage.

Carolina tried to climb back into the game with a Ryan Bear groundout RBI in the seventh inning that made it 5-1. The Mudcats then added two runs in the ninth inning off of Suns closer Mark Alexander with RBI hits from Bear and Patrick Arlis that finished the scoring in favor of Jacksonville 5-3.

Alvis Ojeda picked up the relief win to improve to 7-3 while Scott Nestor picked up the loss for Carolina to fall to 2-2.
