Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Hagerstown, MD - On a windy night in Hagerstown, it was solar power that charged Hagerstown's 7-2 win over the Augusta GreenJackets. 10 Suns hitters provided six runs in the seventh inning for the decisive margin.

Leading 2-1 in the seventh, Mitch Lively allowed a double down the right field line by Francisco Soriano to tie the game at two. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Steven Souza's single put Hagerstown up for good. Justin Bloxom singled home two more and the rout was on. JP Ramirez doubled home a run and Bloxom would score another on a wild pitch.

The Suns struck first in the fourth after an error by right fielder Ryan Lollis. He failed to catch a foul pop fly down the line one pitch before Marcus Jones' two-out, run-scoring single put Hagerstown up 1-0. The GreenJackets took the lead in the fifth with a two out rally started by a hit batsman and three straight walks from Paul Demny, who lost control of the strike zone with little warning. The last of those walks, issued to Daniel Cook, tied the game. Tommy Joseph hit an infield single to shortstop to give Augusta the lead, but Nick Liles was caught in a rundown off third to end the inning off reliever Mitchell Clegg.

Neither starter factored in the decision as Zack Wheeler gave up just the unearned run in 4.2 innings on four hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Lively (0-1) got out of the fifth without throwing a pitch - he picked off the man at first before facing the hitter - but imploded in the seventh in the loss, allowing four runs on three hits and a walk in 1.2 innings.

Clegg (2-0) allowed only two baserunners in the final four innings in relief of Demny to get the win. He struck out five in 4.1 scoreless innings.

After the shutout loss on Tuesday in Asheville, Augusta's bats have struggled in two of their last three games - all losses. The Jackets have just two runs and seven hits in their last two games.

The GreenJackets played on the coldest night of their season, with temperatures dipping into the low 50's and winds holding at about 20 miles per hour with gusts out to right-center at up to 30 miles per hour. Devan Kline (1-0, 2.61) will take the ball in a spot start for Augusta on Thursday as the GreenJackets try to break their three-game losing skid. He'll face Daniel Rosenbaum (1-0, 1.19), who'll try to extend Hagerstown's three-game winning streak. First pitch will come at 6:35 p.m. in Hagerstown with the pregame action beginning at 6:20 p.m. on www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
