JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –- The Suns split a doubleheader with a Tennessee Smokies on Tuesday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Suns lost the opening game, 3-2, and won the nightcap, 7-2. The doubleheader was a make-up of the game rained out April 9.

Derek Michaelis and Tarrik Brock each hit three-run home runs in the second game to propel the Suns' offense. Michaelis homered in the first inning, giving the Suns a 3-0 lead. Greg Bauer, in a spot start, allowed two runs over five innings to earn his first victory. With Jacksonville holding a 3-2 lead and Rick Ankiel pitching, Mike Collins singled home Tony Socarras in the fourth inning to give Bauer some breathing room. Brock's blast followed to cap the scoring.

Smokies starter Cheyenne Janke (0-1) earned the loss, allowing five runs over 3-2/3 innings. Tennessee scored twice in the third inning on an RBI triple by Dennis Abreu and a run-scoring groundout by Chris Weekly.

In the first game, the Suns (6-6) tied the game 1-1 in the second inning when starting pitcher Tom Farmer singled home Michaelis. But the Smokies (7-5) touched Farmer for single runs in the third and fifth innings on Papo Bolivar's RBI single and Bucky Jacobsen's run-scoring double, respectively. Farmer (0-1) earned the loss in his first start of the season with the Suns.

Augustin Montero and Lino Urdaneta combined to pitch 2-2/3 scoreless innings, but Jacksonville could not score a tying run against winning pitcher Rhett Parrott (1-1). Parrott scattered eight hits over 5-2/3 innings.

The Suns will start right-hander Heath Totten (0-2, 3.97) against Smokies righty Danny Haren (2-0, 1.50) at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The game will broadcast solely on the Internet at www.jaxsuns.com.
