ORLANDO âHuntsville took advantage of an erratic starting pitcher and an overworked bullpen as the Stars knocked off the Orlando Rays 9-0 in front of 2,448 fans at Cracker Jack Stadium Tuesday.
Rays' starting pitcher Jon Switzer battled control problems early, walking six Huntsville batters over 3.1 innings. When Switzer was around the plate, the Stars hitters took advantage, pounding out eight hits that led to eight runs, all earned. After using five relievers in Monday's dramatic 15th-inning victory and three relievers in tonight's game, O-Rays' manager Charlie Montoyo was forced to turn to infielder Frank Moore to pitch the ninth.
Stars lefty Derek Lee (2-0) had no such problems, holding the Rays to four hits over six innings in picking up the win.
The same two teams square off again tomorrow night at 7:05, with the O-Rays sending right-hander Brian Stokes (0-1, 0.96) to the mound to take on right-hander Luis Martinez (1-0, 0.00). Derek Lee (1-0, 3.86). For ticket information call (407) 939-GAME (4263).
