
Suns Pull Even In Eastern Finals

Zebulon, NC --- Heath Totten pitched seven shutout innings to lead the Jacksonville Suns to a 3-0 win to even the Eastern Divisional Championship Series at Five County Stadium on Thursday night. Totten (W) allowed four hits and two walks, fanning seven in his outing for the win. In three outings against the Mudcats, Totten has allowed one run to Carolina in 18 innings in 2002.
The best-of-five series is tied 1-1, with the final three games shifting to Jacksonville's Wolfson Park Friday through Sunday.
Eric Riggs hit a two-run homer in the second inning against Ryan Cameron to lift the Suns to a 2-0 lead. The Suns added a two-out run in the sixth inning as Koyie Hill grounded a single to right to score Reggie Abercrombie, who had tripled.
Carolina had one baserunner reach third base in the game, with Matt Holliday tagging and advancing to third in the ninth inning.
The Mudcats best opportunity against Totten occurred in the second inning, when trailing 2-0, Brad Hawpe singled and Holliday walked. Totten, however, retired the next three hitters.
The Mudcats put two runners aboard with two outs in the third against Totten, but Hawpe struck out. In the eighth against Suns reliever Eric Stults, a pair of walks with one out put the tying run at the plate, however Rene Reyes flew to deep left field and Hawpe grounded out to end the inning.
In the ninth against Will McCrotty (S), Carolina had singles from Holliday and Jason Dewey, but McCrotty retired Garrett Atkins, Ryan Owens and pinch-hitter JD Closser to end the game.
Ryan Cameron (L), starting for the first time in 10 days, worked one out into the seventh inning, permitting just five hits and three runs. Cameron fanned five and did not walk a hitter.
Chandler Martin (7-4) starts against Joel Hanrahan (1-1) in game three Friday night at 7:05 PM ET. Game four is Saturday afternoon at 1:05 with Robert Averette (1-6) starting against Ruddy Lugo (3-1).
