Suns Pull Away Late in Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Biscuits (34-32) scored two runs in the fifth inning to get within one of the Jacksonville Suns (33-30), but the Suns went on to score the final five runs in an 8-2 loss for the Biscuits Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville.

With the Suns leading 3-0, Todd Gleasmann ripped a double off of rehabbing Big Leaguer, Nathan Eovaldi to lead off the fifth inning. Three batters later, Robby Price singled to center to drive in Glaesmann followed by an RBI-double from Mark Thomas to make it a 3-2 game.

The Suns pulled away late with a solo shot form Kyle Jensen in the sixth inning to make it 4-2 Jacksonville. The Suns then added two runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to make it 8-2.

Jake Thompson (6-6) matched a career-high with eight strikeouts despite allowing six runs through 6.2 innings for the loss. Thompson faced the minimum through two innings before allowing a two-run homer to Audy Ciriaco in the third, followed by a sacrifice fly from Zack Cox to make it 3-0 Jacksonville.

Game two in the series is Friday night at 6:05. RHP Victor Mateo will be on the hill for the Biscuits while the Suns will send LHP Adam Conley to the mound.
