Birmingham Barons News Release

The Birmingham Barons dropped game one of their five-game series against the Jackson Generals by a score of 7-2 Thursday night in front of 5,747 fans at Regions Field.

Marcus Semien led off the bottom of the first with a triple off the wall in center and scored on an RBI groundout by Keenyn Walker to give the Barons an early 1-0 lead.

The lead would be short lived as the Generals threw a four-spot on the board in the third highlighted by a two-run double by James Jones and an RBI single by Leon Landry.

The Generals would tack on two more runs in the fourth on RBI hits by Jack Marder and Gabriel Noriega, taking a 6-1 lead and knocking starter Scott Snodgress (7-5, 5.02) from the game. On the night, Snodgress allowed six runs on six hits and walked three over 4.0 IP.

Kevin Vance relieved Snodgress and promptly struck out the first five batters he faced. Over 3.0 scoreless innings, Vance struck out six without allowing a hit.

Generals starter Roenis Elias (3-6, 2.92) scattered seven hits and allowed just one run over 7.0 innings. Marcus Semien was the lone Baron to record a multi-hit night, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple and a run scored.

The Barons scored their final run in the ninth on an RBI infield single by Tyler Saladino but they were unable to mount a final rally, falling by a score of 7-2.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 41-25 on the season while the Generals improved to 28-34 and 4-2 against the Barons.

The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Nick McCully (6-1, 2.93) takes the hill against RHP Taijuan Walker (3-6, 2.52). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
