Hagerstown Suns News Release
Nathan Schierholtz hit a game tying home run in the sixth inning as the Suns (14-21) took game one against the Columbus Catfish (19-15) by a score of 3-2 Friday Night at Municipal Stadium. In a game that was delayed an hour due to rain, the Suns found the wait well worth it as they won for only the second time in the past eight games.
Catcher Brian Munhall had the go ahead triple for the Suns, only three batters after Schierholtz had tied things up in the sixth with his seventh homerun of the season. Munhall came into the game in the third inning after starting catcher Dayton Buller took a foul ball off of his right hand.
Ben Thurmond was dominate in his first start of the year for the Suns, going five innings allowing two unearned runs while striking out seven. The bullpen held the Catfish scoreless in four innings of work. Ryan Sadowski notched the win and Tim Alvarez recorded his seventh save of the year.
Suns and Catfish go at it again tomorrow evening, first pitch will be at 7:05. Juan Serrato (2-1, 2.86) will take the mound for Hagerstown and he will be opposed by Phil Sobkow (1-1, 6.10) for Columbus. SpongeBob Squarepants will be here at Municipal Stadium and all fans will receive a free Hagerstown Suns notepad for coming through the turnstiles.
