The Pittsfield Suns baseball team completed their first ever "˜Shirt Off Our Back' promotion on Monday July 16th. Suns players were dressed in special camouflage jerseys for the Monday evening game against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks. Fans were given the opportunity to bid on each player's jersey through a silent auction. At the completion of the sixth inning, the bidding came to an end.

One hundred percent of the proceeds of the raffle went to Soldier On, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans. There were a total of 29 jerseys in the auction, including all players and coaches from the Suns roster. The total raised for all the jerseys was $1,722. The jersey with the highest bid belonged to number 10, Chad Funkhouser, who alone brought in $500 dollars.

"Soldier On and the veterans we serve would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Pittsfield Suns and their fans who contributed to the "Shirt Off Our Backs" promotion," Soldier On President and CEO John F. Downing said. "The money raised by this generous program will be used to fund our continuing efforts to confront and end veteran homelessness."

The Suns would like to thank their generous fans for the support of this great organization. "On behalf of the Pittsfield Suns and the Goldklang Group, we are thrilled to be able to present Soldier On with a check for $1,722. We hope to expand on this event next year and grow it into one of our marquee events for years to come", Suns Assistant General Manager Kevin McGuire said. The Pittsfield Suns return to Wahconah Park on Friday July 20th at 7PM. It's Be Your Own Fan Friday with fireworks lighting up the sky at the conclusion of the game. Tickets are still available, so call (413) 445-SUNS or go to www.pittsfieldsuns.com to book them!
