Sharks Cruise Past Rox, 12-1

Vineyard Haven, Mass. - Eric Jensen (Wheaton) finished with five RBIs to help the Martha's Vineyard Sharks cruise past the Brockton Rox, 12-1, at Vineyard Park on Thursday night in Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) action.

Martha's Vineyard (16-14) tallied runs in the first and third innings, before exploding for six runs in the bottom of the fourth. An inning later, the hosts continued their offensive barrage with four more runs in the fifth to take a commanding, 12-0, lead.

Brockton (15-18) scratched a single run in the top of the ninth to avoid the shutout when Westwood's Sean Amaru (Quinnipiac), who led off the frame with a single, scored on a wild pitch.

Jensen's monster performance highlighted the evening for the Sharks, as the shortstop went 2-for-5 with a double, five RBIs, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Jack Colton (Harvard) finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Apolinar De La Cruz (Wheaton) added a pair of hits to go along with a pair of RBIs.

Vito Perna (Southeastern Louisiana) was a bright spot offensively for the Rox, as he registered a pair of hits in the loss.

Dan Weigel (Bucknell) pitched brilliantly for the Sharks to earn the win (2-3). He allowed just five hits and three walks in seven shutout innings, while striking out three.

Jonathan Rosenberger (Newberry) lasted just four inning en route to his first loss of the season (2-1).

Tyler Squibbs (Indiana University of Pennsylvania), A.J. Bashaw (New Jersey Institute of Technology), and Frank Fantino (Southern New Hampshire) combined to toss 3.2 scoreless innings of relief for Brockton, walking four and scattering just one hit along the way.

The Rox return home to face the North Shore Navigators on Friday at 7:05 p.m., while the Sharks host the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide at 5 p.m.
