
Suns Fall 4-3 in Second Half Opener

Hagerstown, MD - Luis Garcia and Jeyner Baez started the second half off on fire with multi-hit games in the Hagerstown Suns 4-3 loss to the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Thursday night at Historic Municipal Stadium. The Suns start the second half 0-1 and are 27-42 overall and will play the second game of the series against the Grasshoppers on Friday with a 7:05 PM first pitch.
Greensboro scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning against Hagerstown starter Jackson Tetreault. Jose Devers led off with an infield single and made it to third base on an errant throw from Tetreault. Devers scored with two outs on a 377-foot home run by Isael Soto to make it 2-0.
The Grasshoppers added to the lead in the third inning as Thomas Jones led off with a single and then stole second base to put a runner in scoring position. With one out, a base-hit from Jhonny Santos moved Jones to third and put runners at the corners. Jones scored on a sacrifice fly to left field from Soto to increase the lead 3-0 and Santos moved to second on the fly out.
The Suns plated a run in the fifth inning against Greensboro starter Brandon Miller. With one out Kameron Esthay, Jeyner Baez, and Nick Choruby all singled to load the bases. Esthay scored when Armond Upshaw bounced into fielder's choice to second base, cutting the lead to 3-1.
Hagerstown tied the ball game in the bottom of the sixth when Cole Freeman led off with a single to right field and moved to third on a hit-and-run single by Luis Garcia to put runners at the corners with no outs. Jake Scudder plated Freeman on a sacrifice fly to center field to bring the Suns within one, 3-2. Garcia stole second base and scored when Omar Meregildo doubled down the left-field line to tie the game at 3-3.
Greensboro took back the lead in the eighth inning against Hagerstown reliever A.J. Bogucki. Devers led off the inning with a base-hit to left and stole second to put a runner in scoring position. With one out, Soto recorded his fourth RBI of the game when he doubled down the left field line to plate Devers to re-take the lead, 4-3. The Grasshoppers loaded the bases with one out, but Bogucki struck out the final two hitters of the inning to keep it a one-run game.
Tetreault pitched five innings giving up three runs on seven hits, with a walk and struck out six in a no-decision. Jared Brasher entered in the sixth inning and threw one scoreless inning without allowing a hit and struck out three batters. Bogucki (1-2) pitched three innings, giving up one run on four hits, one walk, and struck out five batters in the Suns 4-3 loss.
Notes: Garcia increases his hit streak to six games... He also had his 21st multi-hit game of the year... Scudder extends his hit streak to five games... Baez recorded his fifth multi-hit game... Baez also increased his current hitting streak to five games... Choruby gets his first hit of the season... Tetreault's last five starts have gone five innings or more... He's also recorded at least five strikeouts in each of those starts... Bogucki struck out five out of the bullpen for the second time this season and has three five strike out games overall... The Suns and Grasshoppers will play the second game of the three game series Friday night ... First pitch will be at 7:05 PM... Pink Weekend continues... There will be a fireworks show following the game presented by Potomac Edison... The Suns will send LHP Seth Romero (0-1, 5.59 ERA) against Grasshoppers RHP Dustin Beggs (2-1, 2.78 ERA)...
