
Gonzalez and Kirby Lead the Way

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 6-1 on Thursday night against the Rome Braves.
Rome struck first in the second inning when Drew Lugbauer hit a solo home run to left field. Ryan Kirby was quick to answer with one of his own in the bottom of the inning. His towering home run to right field tied the game at one.
The score would stay tied until the fifth inning, when Jacob Gonzalez sent out a three-run home run to deep center field. His sixth home run of the season put the GreenJackets up 4-1.
Augusta would keep the lead, behind their dominating pitching out of the bullpen. Tyler Schimpf, Olbis Parra, and Camilo Doval combined to pitch the final seven innings for the GreenJackets. The Braves would combine for only three hits over the final seven innings.
After putting up two insurance runs in the eighth inning, the GreenJackets would go on to win easily, 6-1. Game two of the series against the Rome Braves will take place at 7:05 pm tomorrow.
