ABOUT LAST GAME: The Fireflies capped off the first half schedule with an 8-2 victory over Hagerstown on Sunday afternoon. Rigoberto Terrazas and Jeremy Vasquez each drove in a pair of runs. Yeizo Campos earned his first win of the season on the mound (5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 5 K).
FIREFLIES ALL-STAR RECAP: The Southern Division All-Stars defeated the Northern Division 9-5 in Greensboro on Tuesday.
- For the third straight year (P.J. Conlon - 2016, Merandy Gonzalez - 2017), a Firefly was on the mound to start the South Atlantic League All-Star Game. Joe Cavallaro represented the South Division and tossed the first inning of the game. The righty allowed one run and did not walk a batter.
- Jeremy Vasquez also inked his name amongst the star-studded field. The 21-year-old added an insurance run with a solo blast in the ninth inning.
- Stephen Villines and Trey Cobb were impressive out of the bullpen. Villines entered the game with two outs in the seventh inning and struck out the only batter he faced in his outing. Cobb closed the door, recording the final two outs of the game.
REINFORCEMENTS: Columbia's bullpen was extremely reliable in the final 10 games of the first half:
- 29.0 IP, 23 H, 4 ER, 7 BB, 29 K ... *1.24 ERA*
MOVING UP: LHP David Peterson was promoted from Columbia to Advanced-A St. Lucie on June 12. The southpaw made his first start with the Mets on June 14 and earned the win (5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 K). Peterson was a SAL All Star while with the Fireflies. He posted a stellar 1.82 ERA in nine starts at the Low-A level.
WALK IT LIKE I TALK IT: Columbia is the only team in MiLB with three players leading their respective league in total walks (the next closest being the Fresno Grizzlies - HOU, AAA - with three in the top four in the PCL).
South Atlantic League (Low A)
1. Blake Tiberi (COL) - 43
2. Jeremy Vasquez (COL) - 36
3. Matt Winaker (COL) - 34
