Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (23-38) got four early runs and were able to hold on late in a 4-3 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds (34-26) on Saturday night.
Hagerstown took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Shortstop Jose Lozada singled with one out and was brought all the way around on a Tim Pahuta double to left-center field.
The Suns got one more in the bottom of the second inning via the long ball. Right fielder Robby Jacobsen lined his first home run of the season over the right-center field wall.
Hagerstown extended that lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the fourth inning. Jacobsen picked up his second extra base hit of the night with a double to left field. Left fielder Bryan Miller then reached on an error by the Delmarva third baseman, Jedediah Stephen. Jake Rogers promptly came up and drove in Jacobsen with a single to right field. Valerio Heredia capped the scoring for the Suns with a RBI single to score Miller.
Delmarva did not go down quietly. The Shorebirds made it interesting with three runs in the top of the eighth thanks to a walk, a hit by pitch, two hits and three wild pitches.
Dan Leatherman entered the game for the Suns with two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the eighth. Leatherman slammed the door with a strike out of Pedro Florimon to end the eighth and two more strike outs in the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the year.
Ozzie Rodriguez (1-1) picked up his first win as a Hagerstown Sun. Rodriguez gave up just two hits and struck out seven through five innings of work.
Chris Salberg (1-4) took the loss for Delmarva. The lefty gave up all four of the Suns' runs and did not get out of the fifth inning.
The Suns will go for the series victory tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 from Municipal Stadium.
