Hagerstown Suns News Release
EAST LAKE, OH - The Hagerstown Suns lost their third straight game, this time to the South Atlantic League Northern division leading Lake County Captains, 2-0.
Both teams got excellent pitching throughout the game, as Colten Willems started the game for Hagerstown. Willems (1-1) pitched four and two thirds innings and allowed only one run while striking out four batters, but suffered the loss in the game. Martin Beno and Kyle Gunderson were effective in relief for the Suns, pitching three and one third innings while allowing just two hits and no earned runs.
Ryan Miller (4-0) earned the win for Lake County, as he shut down the Suns for six innings while striking out six and allowing just three hits. Josh Judy and Vinnie Pestano were excellent in relief for Lake County, finishing the last three innings without allowing a hit or a walk to the Suns. Pestano earned his fourth save of the season by working a perfect ninth inning.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning, when Lake County centerfielder Adam White reached on a bunt single, stole second base and was driven in by left fielder Roman Pena's double.
The lone run in the fifth would hold up, but the Captains added another run in the top of the eighth inning when Pena reached on a miscue by third baseman Steven Souza, and was eventually driven in by DH Jeff Hehr. The throwing error by Souza was his second error of the game.
The Suns and Captains will play game two of their three game series at 1:05 PM on Saturday, April 19th at 1:05 P.M at Classic Park in East Lake, Ohio.
