Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves will honor South Atlantic League President Emeritus John Henry Moss tonight at State Mutual Stadium just prior to the game with the Savannah Sand Gnats. Moss, the longest-serving league president in the minors and the only president the South Atlantic League has ever had has selected Rome to be the first stop of his Celebration Tour.

"It is an honor to start the John Henry Moss Celebration tour in Rome," says Rome General Manager Michael Dunn. "I can't think of a more instrumental person to the game of baseball in the last 50 years than John Henry Moss."

Moss stepped down as president at the end of the 2007 season. He served as league president for 50 years (which was formerly known as the Western Carolinas League). The number 50 will be retired tonight and displayed on the outfield wall in honor of Moss. As president emeritus, Moss will develop a permanent home for the South Atlantic League Hall of Fame and oversee the facility. Moss began inducting members into the league's hall in 1994 and has recognized 79 people thus far.

Also in his honor, a special plaque will be unveiled and a $5000 check will be presented to the United Way from the Rome Braves and Atlanta Braves Foundation. The money will be divided between Floyd County and Cleveland County, North Carolina the home of John Henry Moss.

The Braves take on the Savannah Sand Gnats tonight to begin a four game series. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
