PITTSFIELD, MA (July 8, 2015) - The Pittsfield Suns were defeated by the Nashua Silver Knights 2-0 Wednesday evening at Wahconah Park. Starting pitchers from both clubs went toe to toe, but the Suns were unable to manage one run in the 2-0 shutout.
There was no score until the seventh inning, when Ryan Sullivan led of the inning with a single and Gian Martellini followed with a double. Starter Jamin McCann would strike out Max Burt for the first out and then intentionally walk Matthew O'Herron to try and force a double play. Unfortunately, Matt Fortin flew out to right, allowing Sullivan to score from third, to put the Silver Knights a head 1-0
The Suns would go in order in the seventh, eighth inning before Nashua would add to their lead in the top of the ninth on two doubles and a wild pitch for a 2-0 score. Pittsfield was hopeful, but couldn't come up with runs in the ninth, and were defeated 2-0.
McCann went seven strong innings despite the loss for the Suns, giving up five hits, but just one run while striking out 10 in his second start at home this season. Ryan Moloney pitched six innings, giving up three hits, two walks and striking out five in his third win of the season.
The Suns play again at Wahconah Park this Friday, July 10 at 7 PM. Fans who donate at least one canned food item at the gates on Friday will receive a $1 ticket to the game. All food will be donated to the Christian Center. Postgame Fireworks will take place immediately following the game.
