Sundogs Net the Cutthroats

Denver - The Denver Cutthroats and Arizona Sundogs met for the second night in the weekend series on Saturday, December 14 at the Denver Coliseum. In a high-intensity match, the Sundogs defeated the Cutthroats 4-3.

Denver Cutthroats Dan Barczuk (Nick Schneider, Jeff Neitenbach) lit up the red light for the first goal of the night and his first goal of the season with the Denver Cutthroats. Arizona quickly responded in kind with a goal from Kevin Baker (Matt McCready) closing out the first period with a tie score 1-1.

The intensity of play increased during the second period as shots, penalties, and goals went back and forth. Denver's Garett Bembridge (Steve Kaunisto, Troy Schwab) gave the Cutthroats a 2-1 lead on the power play. Denver's netminder Kent Patterson denied Arizona a penalty shot but couldn't stop Kevin Baker (Alex Tuckerman) from matching the score at 2. While the Cutthroats were on the power play, Arizona's Paul McIlveen (Tuckerman) gave the Sundogs a 3-2 lead. The Cutthroats fought back as Troy Schwab (Bembridge) brought the score back to even at 3 to end the second period.

Arizona's Matt McCready (Baker) scored the final goal of the night to give the Sundogs a 4-3 victory. With Saturday night's win, the Arizona Sundogs take the lead in the 2013-14 season series against the Denver Cutthroats 2-1-0.

The Denver Cutthroats will host the Rapid City Rush on Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21 at the Denver Coliseum.
