Sundogs Get Third Straight Win, Beat Lubbock 3-2

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - In their third game in five days, the Arizona Sundogs faced-off against the Southwest Division Lubbock Cotton Kings in a late-morning Halloween contest. With a third period rally, Arizona overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Cotton Kings 3-2, improving to 4-1-0 on the season. Torrie Wheat and CHL Oakley Player of the Week Brent Kelly continued their scoring ways with a shorthanded goal and power play goal respectively in the third period. Veteran Dan Laperriere notched two points (1g/1a) in the contest.

Arizona would see its first man-disadvantage of the period at 4:48 on a Brent Kelly hooking call. Lubbock would return the favor, giving the Sundogs their first power play of the contest at the 9:19 mark after an interference call on Marc Bianchi. The Cotton Kings would see the only score of the period at 13:36 on a goal from Bobby Brown, assisted by Trevor Weisgerber and Kyle Nosan.

Penalties would pick up in the second period, with Arizona seeing three power play chances and Lubbock seeing two. The Cotton Kings would be the team to capitalize, scoring on the man advantage 11:17 into the second frame. Weisgerber would score, getting his second point of the game, with Stacey Bauman and Craig Minard getting credited with assists.

Arizona's Cory Stillman would be called for interference at 16 seconds to open the third period. Line mate Brent Kelly would cut Lubbock's lead to one and keep his scoring streak alive with an unassisted shorthanded goal just 14 seconds later. Undisciplined play would have the Cotton Kings taking the next three penalties. On the Sundogs' third power play of the period, Torrie Wheat would tie the game, sliding one past Lubbock netminder Kyle Stanton. Michael Vernace and Dan Laperriere would help on the goal. Less than a minute later, Arizona would take the lead for the first time in the game on a Laperriere even-strength goal from Jonathan Bernier and Tab Lardner. Arizona would go a man down at 14:12 on a Chris Greene slashing call but Lubbock was unable to take advantage.

Chris King got his second start in net for the Sundogs this season, stopping 34 of 36 shots. Arizona went 1 for 7 on the power play while Lubbock converted on 1 of 6. Arizona out shot Lubbock 40-36. Next up for the Sundogs is the Colorado Eagles on Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4. Both games are 7:05pm starts (Arizona time).
