LAST WEEK:

FRI Oct. 27 Arizona @ SCORPIONS (3-1 loss) 7:35 pm Santa Ana Star Center

The New Mexico Scorpions brought hockey back to New Mexico Friday night at the opening of the Santa Ana Star Center. Unfortunately, the Sundogs took the victory by a score of 3-1.

History was made just 6:40 into the contest when Arizona's Brent Kelley scored the first goal in the Santa Ana Star Center's history. The rest of the first period would be quiet.

Fans were excited as the teams skated out for the second period, but both goalies stood tall not allowing a goal. The lone second period highlight came at 14:59 when Scorpions' rookie Mike Prpich dropped the gloves with Arizona's Adam Campbell. The fans were treated to an old-fashioned hockey fight as both sluggers traded punches.

The Scorpions tied it up when Ryan McLeod scored his second goal of the season at 3:24 of the third period. The 6,102 fans at the Santa Ana Star Center erupted and hoped to see more, but it would not happen.

The Sundogs' Brent Kelly scored his second goal of the night giving Arizona all the offense they would need. The Sundogs would add a late power play goal by Torrie Wheat for the two-goal win.

SAT Oct. 28 SCORPIONS @ Colorado (6-3 loss) 7:05 pm Budweiser Events Center

After a long overnight trip to Loveland, the Scorpions dropped a 6-3 decision to the Eagles. Colorado notched a franchise record five power play goals in the victory.

Colorado captain Greg Pankewicz and forward Scott Polaski each had two goals pacing the Eagles to their second victory of the season.

Ryan McLeod who scored a goal and added an assist led the Scorpions. The goal gave McLeod his team leading third of the young season. Chris Robertson and Craig MacDonald chipped in the other two goals in the Scorpions loss. Just as Colorado was hot on their power play, all three New Mexico goals came with the man advantage.
