Arizona Sundogs News Release

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Sundogs fell to the Cutthroats Friday night in a five-man shootout at the Denver Coliseum.

As the first twenty minutes came to a close neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Cutthroats found themselves on the power play twice when Arizona's Zack Firlotte picked up two minutes for high sticking and Jeff Kyrzakos for interference. The Sundogs received ample opportunities but were unable to capitalize. Mickael Bedard went one on one with Denver's goaltender Kieran Millan but the puck caught the crossbar deflecting just wide of the net. Arizona was unable to organize on their only power play opportunity during the first period and Chad Nehring with 42 seconds left on the power play was finally able to clear it out of their zone.

Both teams entered the second period picking up the pace, looking to strike first. Arizona saw their number of close calls tonight when Kyle Hood and Bedard both shot just wide of the net catching metal each time. Chad Nehring tried to gain the lead as he barreled in on Millan with a slapper but it was gloved down for the save.

Denver's Brett Lutes snapped the tie, slipping the puck past Arizona's David Brown to give Denver the lead. With two in a half minutes left in regulation Arizona's Mario Larocque ties the game forcing the match-up into overtime and eventually a five-man shootout. Bedard, Nehring and Derek LeBlanc couldn't execute tonight against, stellar rookie netminder, Millan during the shootout. The Sundogs goalie, Brown made 31 saves while the Cutthroats Millan made 26. The Sundogs finished their five-game set against the Cutthroats, 3-1-1. Arizona travels to Wichita, Kansas to take on the Thunder tomorrow night at the Intrust Bank Arena.
