Quad City Mallards News Release
WICHITA, Kan. (November 16, 2012) - Brett Robinson scored a pair of goals- including the game winner- and John Murray made 31 saves- including 17 in the third period alone- as the Quad City Mallards defeated the host Wichita Thunder 3-1 Friday night.
After Greger Hanson's wrist shot from the high slot tied the game at one for Wichita at 9:40 of the second period the Mallards regained the lead when Robinson sneaked into the goalmouth alone and backhanded Mike Stinziani's centering pass home for his second goal of the night at 16:12 of the second.
Murray then shut the door on the Thunder in the third, setting the stage for Mike Hellyer to provide a crucial late insurance goal off Mickey Lang's goalmouth feed with four minutes and 41 seconds left in the game.
Robinson had gotten the Mallards off to a superb stop by burying a rebound to give Quad City a 1-0 lead at 3:27 of the opening period.
The win was the Mallards' first ever victory in Wichita. Quad City had entered the evening 0-4-0 on the road against the Thunder since entering the Central Hockey League in 2010.
The Mallards return to action tomorrow night when they visit the Wichita Thunder. The Mallards next play on home ice Sunday at 4:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. Sunday is the Mallards' first Family Skate Day presented by Genesis Health System. Fans can bring their skates and join the team on the ice immediately after the Mallards' battle with the Rush.
