
Sundogs Fall in Shootout to Americans, 4-3 Loss

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs fell to the Allen Americans Saturday in a 4-3 shootout loss at Tim's Toyota Center in front of 2,735 fans. Brandon Coccimiglio extended his point streak to eight games.
Arizona started the scoring early when Paul Mcilveen registered his eleventh goal of the season 33 seconds into the period. David Rutherford and Coccimiglio each picked up the assists. Alex Lavoie answered back, putting Allen on the board and tying the game. The Sundogs gained the lead heading into the second period with a goal by Johan Ryd and assists credited to Sebastian Geoffrion and Jason Morgan.
The third period saw three more goals, pushing the game into overtime and a five-man shootout for the second night. 1:49 into the third period and Lavoie tallied his second goal and less than a minute later Rutherford posted his second point of the night and Coccimiglio grabbed the assist. The Americans evened the score again, scoring a goal 12:33 into the final frame when Garrett Klotz registered the goal. A scoreless overtime period forced the game into a shootout which the Americans came out on top. Kevin Baker was the only Sundog to score in the shootout.
Andrew Engelage's five game streak came to an end, after blocking 36 shots. Allen outshot Arizona 40-39. Neither team took advantage of their power plays with Arizona 0-4 and Allen 0-6. Both teams will head to Allen Texas for their third game in four days.
