Arizona Sundogs News Release

Wichita, Kansas - The Arizona Sundogs ended their seven game losing skid with a 3-1 victory over the Wichita Thunder Sunday night, putting them six points ahead of the Thunder in the standings. Kevin Baker tallied two goals while Brandon Coccimiglio tallied two points and David Rutherford tallied a point, both just recently activated from injury reserve.

The opening period remained scoreless with Arizona outshooting Wichita but it would be the second period that would see the Sundogs on top with a one goal lead after 40 minutes. Alex Velischek found the back of the net with a feed from Sebastian Geoffrion and Johan Ryd 2:29 into the second. A minute later Wichita evened up the game with a goal from Nick McParland and assists from Ian Lowe and Jon Booras. Baker grabbed the lead for Arizona with 35 seconds remaining in the period with assists from Coccimiglio and Velischek.

Baker posted his second goal 13:52 into the final frame with the assists from Coccimiglio and Rutherford. With back-to-back penalties called on Arizona they were on the penalty kill for four minutes after Michael Couch received a two minute roughing call and Alex Tuckerman got two for handling the puck. With 2:36 left in regulation the Thunder pulled their goalie for the extra attacker giving them a 6-on-4 power play advantage but Arizona successfully killed it off.

Andrew Engelage was stellar in net making 30 saves. Wichita outshot Arizona 32-23. Neither team connected on the power play, Arizona was 0-1 and Wichita was 0-4.

The Sundogs travel to St. Charles for a game on Wednesday before heading to Quad City to finish out their 17-day road trip.
