Sun To Hold Mascot Auditions

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (March 4, 2009) - The Connecticut Sun is looking for high-energy, fun-loving, athletic individuals to join the mascot team as Blaze, the official mascot of the Sun.
All candidates should possess the following:
- The ability to perform athletic activities and to interact with fans at events, on camera and in front of crowds of thousands in an arena during basketball games. Must be great with children, be an outgoing people person and be able to improvise and to animate.
- Prior experience as a mascot, character or interactive entertainer is preferred but not necessary.
- Must be in good physical condition with skills in tumbling, gymnastics or acrobatics. Other basketball skills, dance training and special skills are a plus.
- The availability to appear at all/most Connecticut Sun home games at Mohegan Sun Arena during the 2009 season (2 preseason, 17 regular season and playoffs). Must be able to arrive no less than 2.5 hours before the game.
- The availability to participate in team events on non-game days. Blaze is a well loved, frequently requested ambassador of the team and makes numerous paid appearances both at Mohegan Sun and other locations.
All applicants must be over the age of 18 and reside in New England. Auditions will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena on March 19th from 6-8 p.m. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office. The Connecticut Sun tips off its seventh season at Mohegan Sun Arena on June 6th with a 4 p.m. game against the Washington Mystics. The Sun will host two preseason games, on May 22nd against the New York Liberty at 7 p.m. and May 31st against Los Angeles at 3 p.m. The 2009 WNBA All-Star Game will be held at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, July 25th and can be seen nationally on ABC at 3:30 p.m. Season tickets and mini-plans are on sale now for the 2009 season.
