Sun Signs Poole, Koclanes and Storey to Multi-Year Contracts

UNCASVILLE, CT. - The Connecticut Sun today announced assistant coaches Brandi Poole and Chris Koclanes, along with Director of Basketball Player Development Coach Awvee Storey, will return to Connecticut through the 2022 season.

Poole gears up for her fourth year with the Sun. In her three previous seasons, Poole has helped lead Connecticut to three-straight playoff appearances including the 2019 WNBA finals and the 2020 semifinals. The nine playoff wins during the last two seasons is the most in the WNBA during that span.

Prior to joining the Sun, Poole held an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator position at Texas Tech University from 2015-18. Prior to her time at Texas Tech, Poole who hails from Clarksville, TN, spent 13 seasons alongside Miller, serving as an assistant coach on his staff at both Bowling Green State University and Indiana University, respectively. During their time together at the collegiate level, the duo racked up a record of 290-124 and won eight straight MAC regular season titles and five MAC Tournament Championships.

Hired on Miller's original staff, Koclanes returns for his sixth season overall and third year as a full time assistant. Prior to his tenure as an assistant coach, the Pelham, NY native spent three seasons with the Sun as the team's video and operations coordinator.

Prior to his full time stint with the Sun, Koclanes served as the video coordinator for USC's women's basketball for four seasons and two seasons as the video coordinator at St. Joseph's University.

In addition to the return of Poole and Koclanes, Connecticut also adds Storey as the team's full time Director of Basketball Player Development. Storey joined the Sun in 2019, assisting with player development. In addition to his previous duties, in Storey's newly expanded role, he will focus on building out robust resources for players, both on and off the court.

Before joining the Sun, Storey served as an assistant coach for the Chicago Sky in 2017 and as an assistant coach of the Capital City Go-Go in the G League the year after. An Arizona State alum, Storey also spent time playing both in the NBA and internationally.

"We value continuity within our franchise and I am humbled to work alongside of these amazing coaches and more importantly servant leaders. I have spent a combined 23 seasons on the bench with Brandi, Chris, and Awvee. Brandi and Chris are both excellent x's and o's coaches who have a fantastic work ethic and grinding mentality. Their preparation and passion to serve our players is special.
