UNCASVILLE, CT. (April 20, 2004) â The Connecticut Sun announced today that it has signed former Stanford All American Jamila Wideman to a training camp contract.
The 5-foot-6 Wideman was selected third overall in the 1997 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks after a storied career at Stanford, where she led the Cardinal to the Final Four as a senior. She finished with 585 career assists at Stanford, third in school history, fourth in PAC-10 history.
"She's looking forward to re-starting her career, and we're willing to give her that chance," Connecticut Sun coach Mike Thibault said Wideman, who has not played in the WNBA since 2000. "We're happy to have her in camp."
Wideman played two seasons with Los Angeles, and also played for the Cleveland and Portland Fire. She had 213 assists in 84 games.
