Stubbs Leads 'Hawks Power Surge over 66ers

LANCASTER, Calif. - Garrett Stubbs hit two of the four home runs for the JetHawks, as they scored the final seven runs of the game to top the Inland Empire 66ers on Wednesday night at The Hangar, 11-4.

The second of the two home runs broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning and put the JetHawks on top for good. Bryan Muniz and Jason Martin hit back-to-back long balls in the seventh inning to break open the game.

After Inland Empire struck first on an RBI single by Taylor Ward in the opening inning, the JetHawks responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Stubbs hit a solo homer on the first pitch he saw of the night from Inland Empire starter Jason Hoppe, and Jamie Ritchie delivered an RBI single.

Lancaster added two more in the second inning on Ramon Laureano's two-run double. The 66ers tied the game with a three-run top of the fourth, two coming on a double by Wade Wass. In the bottom of the inning, Luis Reynoso walked and Drew Ferguson singled before Stubbs launched his second homer of the game. Ferguson had three hits on the night, all singles.

Brock Dykxhoorn (3-1) tossed four shutout innings and struck out four to earn the win, tying him for the team lead. Ryan Deemes also pitched a scoreless frame out of the JetHawks bullpen. Dixon Llorens (1-1) took the loss in relief for Inland Empire.

The JetHawks have now won six of their last seven games and will go for the sweep of Inland Empire tomorrow. They are 5-1 with one game remaining on their seven-game homestand.

The JetHawks (17-20) and 66ers (11-29) conclude their three-game series tomorrow night at The Hangar. Elieser Hernandez (1-3) will start for Lancaster against Jake Jewell (0-4+). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
