San Jose Giants News Release

STOCKTON, CA - The San Jose Giants knocked out 15 hits and received a solid six-inning pitching performance from Sam Coonrod in a convincing 8-1 victory over the Stockton Ports on Wednesday evening at Banner Island Ballpark. The win was San Jose's (22-15) second straight to begin the series and improved the Giants' record against Stockton this season to a perfect 9-0.

C.J Hinojosa (3-for-4, 3 2B, RBI) doubled three times while Steven Duggar (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) homered as part of a two-hit game to lead the San Jose offensive attack. Ronnie Jebavy (2-for-6, 2B), Jose Vizcaino, Jr. (2-for-5, RBI), Ty Ross (2-for-2, RBI) and Cristian Paulino (2-for-5, 2 RBI, SB) also finished with two hits apiece.

Coonrod (3-1) won his third straight start after limiting the Ports to just one run during his six-inning outing. The right-hander allowed six hits, walked two and struck out four.

The Giants jumped out early against Stockton starter Casey Meisner plating a run just two batters into the contest. Jebavy doubled down the left field line on the first pitch of the game and immediately scored when the next batter, Duggar, lined a single into center. Duggar was later thrown out attempting to steal, but San Jose would add a second run in the opening frame when Hinojosa doubled to deep left center and scored on Vizcaino's two-out single.

The only Ports run of the night came in the bottom of the third. With one out, Jose Brizuela blooped a single into shallow left before Melvin Mercedes drew a two-out walk. John Nogowski then lined an RBI single into center to cut the Giants lead to 2-1. Coonrod though limited the damage in the inning retiring the next batter, Joe Bennie, on a fly out to right leaving two runners on base.

The score remained at 2-1 until the Giants plated a single run in the top of the fifth. Duggar drew a leadoff walk and came home when the next batter, Hinojosa, doubled down the left field line. San Jose then scored another run in the sixth to make it 4-1 when Junior Arias led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Paulino's single.

Meanwhile, Coonrod finished his night with scoreless fourth, fifth and sixth innings. He set down the Ports in order in the bottom of the fourth before pitching around a pair of singles in the fifth. Coonrod then issued a one-out walk in the bottom of the sixth, but recovered to set down the next two hitters to end the inning.

After Dusten Knight (2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO) pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh, the Giants scored two more runs in the eighth to push their lead to 6-1. Ross started the frame with a walk before Duggar stepped to the plate with two outs and launched a home run to deep right center. The home run was Duggar's sixth of the season.

Back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Ross and Paulino in the top of the ninth then extended the San Jose lead to 8-1.

Rodolfo Martinez (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) tossed a perfect bottom of the ninth to seal the Giants victory.

Meisner (0-6) suffered the loss after yielding three runs (all earned) and eight hits over five innings. He walked three and struck out three.
