Strong Debut from Garland Not Enough as Power Lose to A's

(Mississauga, ON - ) The Power continued their growing pains as they were dealt a devastating 101-90 loss by the Brampton A's, making it Mississauga's tenth loss in a row. Centre Chad Posthumus had another dominating performance as he led the Power with 19 points and 11 boards in his third outing since joining Mississauga on Jan 9. Tyrone Garland earned Peak Performer of the Game honours with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in his debut game for the Power.
Right from the buzzer Brampton worked their way to a 13-9 lead. The Power were never far from reach with seven strong points from Posthumus. The Black and Silver were burning with energy and battled for loose balls to outrebound the A's 18-13. Part three of the Peel Rivalry had started out with a 26-25 lead for Brampton at the end of the quarter and the game only looked to be getting more interesting.
The A's didn't waste any time getting to the hoop after the buzzer. But when the Power had the ball Brampton's defence bit off more than they could chew with the mighty Posthumus owning the paint. The Power had a strong presence under the basket with Posthumus, Cooper and Capers taking turns to rough it out but also dish it out against the physical A's. Neither team had a lead that exceeded three points, further fuelling the Peel Rivalry. The name spoke for itself for the rest of the quarter and both teams were gridlocked at 51 points at the half.
Forward Jaushay Rockett helped the Power take a 60-58 lead with a pull up jumper at the elbow. The basket still couldn't get the squad to shake off the A's who seamlessly tied it up in their next possession. The back and forth style continued for the next few minutes. Mississauga's defence stepped up their game with great coverage from the Posthumus/Cooper tandem. The pair forced travels and blocked shots giving the Power some momentum to get their defence going. Forward Marcus Capers followed up with a rim swinging dunk and the Power were on a roll and had an answer for every Brampton basket. Mississauga took that attitude into the final frame with a narrow 78-77 lead.
That attitude and swagger simmered down in the fourth and Brampton took over with an 83-78 lead. It was Brampton that came out strong and pulled away 98-86 to leave the Power in the dust with three and a half minutes to go. The A's carried too much steam for the Power to handle and dropped their third Peel Rivalry match of the month 101-90.
Despite the growing pains the Power are looking to snap their skid in London when they travel to play the Lightning on Jan. 18, tip off set for 2 p.m.
