Mill Rats Prevail in Overtime 123-117

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats prevailed in 123-117 in overtime against the Moncton Miracles at Harbour Station.
Saint John got out of the gate with an early 20-7 lead to start the game, but the Miracles rallied to gain control by halftime, 56-51.
Moncton remained in control from the intermission until late in the fourth quarter, but the Mill Rats kept nipping at their heels, hanging around. Kenny Jones put back gave the Mill Rats their first lead since early, 96-95, with 4 minutes left.
But then Moncton regained control on a 5-0 run off jump shots by Shawn Vanzant and Tyler Murray. Johnny Mayhane drained a long three to make it 100-99 Moncton with under 2 minutes left.
Trailing 105-103 with 20 seconds left Darin Mency missed a three pointer for the lead, but Tyrone Levett grabbed a huge offensive rebound and was fouled. His two free throws tied the game at 105 all, and the game headed to overtime.
In the overtime it was the 'Johnny Mayhane show' as the All Star shooting guard scored 12 points of his 28 points against his former club to seal the win.
"This was a gutsy, character building type of win against a quality team," said Mill Rats Head Coach Julian King. "It had a grind it out, playoff type feel to it and I'm proud that our guys found a way to win when not everything was going right."
Kenny Jones led Saint John with 29 points, Mayhane 28, Alex Johnson 15, Tyrone Levett 12, and three more players tied with 11: Darin Mency, Jeremy Williams, and Raheem Singleton. Singleton also had a double-double with 11 assists. Troy Brewer led Moncton with 19 points.
The Mill Rats next face the defending champion Windsor Express on Saturday January 17th at 7pm at Harbour Station.
