Strom Home Run Keeps Bravehearts Perfect

Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER - Through seven innings, Worcester Bravehearts center fielder Ian Strom had the team's only hit - a bunt single that landed about 10 feet in front of the plate.

His next hit in the bottom of the eight inning landed 357 feet away from home plate and over the fence in left center field, breaking Worcester's hitting drought and giving the squad a 2-1 win against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs on June 6 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Strom, a Hopedale, Mass., native, recorded Worcester's only two hits in the ball game, but like June 4 against the Torrington Titans, a couple of hits were enough for the victory.

Wachusett starting pitcher Ben White and Worcester starter Sam Ross kept the bats quiet tonight. White threw five scoreless innings, struck out six batters and allowed only one hit. Ross pitched four scoreless innings, gave up two hits but was charged with the Dirt Dawgs' only run after walking Wachusett shortstop Richard Fecteau in the sixth inning. Fecteau later scored on an error by Worcester third baseman Mark DeYoung.

The Bravehearts threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out and runners on second and third. Wachusett reliever Alec Morrison threw a wild pitch, but tagged Andy Lack at the plate in time to save the lead. But Morrison's next pitch was also wild and allow Strom to score from third and tie the game at 1-1.

Chris Dious and Clark University pitcher Miles Sheehan held the Dirt Dawgs scoreless in three innings combined. Northeastern University pitcher Aaron Civale pitched a perfect ninth inning to record the save and preserve the victory.

The Bravehearts return to action at 7:05 June 7 at Hanover Insurance Park against the Nashua Silver Knights. The team will celebrate Lobster Night, as lobster rolls will be on sale in the concessions stands during the ball game.
