Pitching Dominates as Dirt Dawgs beat Navigators 2-0

LYNN, Mass - For the second straight game, the Dirt Dawg pitching staff baffled their opponents. Connor Smith (The College of New Jersey) went six innings and only allowed one hit. He also added five strikeouts. Smith commented on his performance saying "It was my first start in a month and I came out aggressive. I had my stuff working and had the fastball splitter combo going."

After six strong innings, Evan Mackintosh (UMass Amherst) came into pitch. He got the three inning save while only allowing three hits. In addition, he struck out three. Mackintosh was able to leave four runners left on base in the three innings he pitched.

The Dirt Dawgs were able to score their first run in the sixth inning. Mattingly Romanin made it to first on a throwing error made by Steve Xirinaches. He then advanced to second on errant pickoff attempt. After a walk to Kyle Brigham (Daniel Webster), Romanin was able to score on a wild throw to second on a pitch hit by Tony Rallo (Judson University).

In the eighth inning, Joe Breen (Southern Connecticut) hit his first home run of the season to right center field that made it a 2-0 game.

The Dirt Dawgs will host the Brockton Rox June 8 at historic Doyle Field at 4:35. Jon Silva(Pace University) will get his first start of the season.
