Strikers Travel to San Antonio to Take on the Scorpions

Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 17, 2014) - The Strikers face a tough test in San Antonio as they prepare to take on the red-hot San Antonio Scorpions in the second match of the Fall season. The Strikers are coming off a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Spring champions Minnesota United FC at Lockhart while the Scorpions are fresh off a 3-1 away victory over the New York Cosmos.

Minnesota, who snapped the Strikers three-match win streak in a fight for first encounter back in May, extended the Strikers winless run on Saturday to five straight matches. Fort Lauderdale will be looking to end the negative run of form against the Scorpions, who have been lackluster at home (1-2-2) compared to their 100% record on the road (5-0-0) in 2014.

"We had a tough opening match against Minnesota, now we just have to put that game behind us," said Strikers Head Coach G-nter Kronsteiner. "We've got to continue to work together and get some points on the road. San Antonio is always a tough place to play; they're going to be ready for us. But we're still in the fight for a spot in the post-season, so we're prepared to go in there and give them a tough game."

Saturday's match will be a repeat of the final match of the Spring season in which the Strikers managed to pick up a crucial away point. Fafà Picault struck in the final minute of the match to salvage a 2-2 draw for the Strikers in San Antonio.

Fans can watch the game for free on ESPN3 at 8:45pm EDT. The game will also be available online through NASLLive.com. Fans can subscribe to the service to watch every game in the Fall season.
